SHS girls basketball team opens season

It was not the season opener the Superior High School girls basketball team was looking, Thursday. They fell to the Sutton Fillies 53-47 at Sutton. They roared back with a 62-7 trouncing of Republic County at Superior, Saturday.

The Wildcats held a 13-11 first quarter lead against Sutton. A bizarre second quarter which saw several Superior players on the bench with multiple fouls, put them in a deep hole they were unable to climb out of. Superior was held scoreless while the Fillies dropped in 17 points to take a 28-13 lead into the halfway intermission. Superior found their touch in the third quarter narrowing the gap to 38-25. A ferocious attempt at a comeback stalled out when time expired. Superior put up 22 points in the final frame while holding the Fillies to 15. It was not enough. Superior departed Sutton with a 0-1 record after the 53-47 loss.

The game against Republic County was different. Superior jumped out to a 26-0 lead after the first quarter. It was all Wildcats, 34-2, at the half. Matter kept getting worse for Republic County as they trailed 50-4 at the end of three quarters. When time mercifully expired, the Buffaloes had been stamped by a 62-7 score and Superior evened their record at 1-1.

Superior hosted the Fairbury Jeffs, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time.
