Ken Rempe takes seat as county commissioner

Nuckolls County Board

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. Kenny Rempe attended his first meeting after being sworn in to serve the remainder of James Keifer's term. Keifer died in November. Rempe represents District 1.

The board approved a contract with Applied Connective for IT services at the courthouse.

The main item of attention was discussion and action on elected officials salaries. Salaries for these officials are set every four years. The board approved new salaries. The rates will take effect on Jan. 1. 2023. The agreement calls for an annual 3.5 percent increase or Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), whichever one is greater, effective Jan. 1, 2024

Base salaries of $59,500 annually were set for the offices of county clerk, clerk of the district court, county assessor and county treasurer.

The salary of the sheriff was set at $71,500. The county attorney is to be paid $67,500. Board members voted not to increase their salaries. The salary will remain $21,059 annually.

Those interested in filing to run for office may do so after the first of the year. A filing fee of 10 percent of the annual salary is required as well as the candidate meeting other qualifications.

The courthouse will be closed Friday, Dec. 24.

The board meets at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 20.
