Once Upon a Christmas
Superior businesses and community organizations are joining together Friday to sponsor an event in downtown Superior that will entertain the youngsters and their parents. Called "Once Upon A Christmas" Santa and Mrs. Claus are expected to be in the downtown area. Many stores will be offering treats, Brodstone Memorial Hospital will be serving a meal, and there will be a few movie.
This is the second free movie thus far of the Christmas season at the Crest. Saturday the Cutting Edge sponored a free movie matinee. At 7 p.m. Friday, the First United Methodist Church and Brodstone Memorial Hospital will sponsor the showing of the movie titled "The Star."
In addition to free admission, there will be free popcorn and hot cocoa available for a free will donation. Youngsters are invited to bring their sled, pillow and blanket and watch the movie from the "comfort" of their own sled.
As Santa won't be able to land his sled in downtown Superior, the Superior Volunteer Fire Department has made arrangements to meet Santa Claus and bring him into town. It is expected he will want a tour of the town to refresh his memory before heading to the Farmers & Merchants Bank where he will visit with the youngsters. Santa is expected to be at the bank between 5 and 7 p.m.
And if the youngsters are afraid Santa might forget what they tell him, Home Federal Bank has arranged for a special Santa Mailbox to be located in Lincoln Park's Candy Cane Lane. Santa has promised to answer all letters left in the special mail box but he hasn't promised to fulfill all the requests.
On Friday night Mrs. Claus will visit with youngsters at Main Street Floral.
Members of the Superior Drill Team will be wrapping packages at the GTA Insurance office.
Many Superior businesses will have longer hours on Friday. The Corner Nook will stay open late on Friday to introduce their Christmas drinks. Their hours this Friday will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
If you would like a family photo this holiday season, there will be a decorated Model A pickup parked at Home Federal. Participants will need to bring their own camera and make arrangements for the pictures to be taken.
Though open only a week, Candy Cane Lane is again proving to be a popular place. Horsedrawn wagon rides were available on Friday and Saturday night along with a selection of refreshments at the scout cabin.
The horses may not be in the park this Friday but hayrack rides will be available from 6 to 8:30 on Friday. It is anticipated the hayrack will be pulled by an antique tractor.
Chili, hot chocolae, roasted marshmallows, hot dogs and hot apple cider will be served in the scout cabin from 6 to 9 p.m while Candy Cane Lane is open.
Brodstone Hospital's "To Go" meal will feature pulled chicken sandwich, chips, cookie, water and a Christmas treat, all available for a free-will donation. Proceeds will be divided between the Giving Tree and Candy Cane Lane. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. in the Farmers & Merchants Bank drive thru.
Youngsters are invited to make reindeer food and decorate cookies from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ideal Market.
Items for Secret Santa are being collected at Scotts Sales and Service and Ace Hardware. The project to bring the joy of Christmas to the less fortunate is sponsored by the State Line Strutters. The Nuckolls County Giving Tree will be collecting gifts and monetary donations through Saturday, Dec. 11.
The elementary school winter concert will held one week from today (Dec. 9) starting at 7 p.m.
