Candace Durant, 88, died Nov. 9, 2021 at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kan. She was born January 20, 1933, the only child of Chester and Ruth (Banker) Beineke in Salina. She graduated from Salina High School.
While attending Kansas Wes- leyan College, she met Don Durant, who became her husband Dec. 21, 1952. They were married in the 9th Street Evangelical United Brethren Church. She moved with Don to Fort Riley, Kan., when Don joined the army for two years.
Candace and Don raised their four children on the farm west of Jewell. Candace was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, and for many years was a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and member of UMW. She was also a member of the Brownscreek Garden Club and Eastern Star. She enjoyed socializing in the community and in later years was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She worked at the Jewell County Courthouse in the clerk of the court office.
She is survived by a son, Dirk (Naomi) Durant, St. Paul, Minn.; daughter, Dotty (Jerry) Baxa, Salina; daughter, Jackie (Ernie) Navarro, Walnut, Calif., daughter, Rhonda (Kyle) Crawford, Hutchinson; grandchildren: Arian (Abe) Smith, Mattie Baxa, Tiffany Navarro, Taylor and MacLain Crawford; great-grandchildren: Elijah, Isaac, and Lydia Smith, and Jonah Baxa.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov.29, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Jewell, with Pastor Jim Rice officiating.
Burial will follow at the Jewell City Cemetery, Jewell.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Jewell, or the Mitchell County Health Systems.
