Veronica Marihugh

Veronica Marihugh was born on May 28, 1934, in Bekescaba, Hungary, the daughter of Josef and Theresia (Brandt) Geisel. As a young girl, Veronica and her family were forced to flee from their home by the Russian military, and the family immigrated to the United States, settling in Ponca City, Okla. Veronica attended school in Ponca City, graduating from high school in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Edgar C. Marihugh at the Christian Church in Ponca City on Jan. 15, 1955. To this union of more than 66 years, three children were born, Linda Kay, James Allen and Kenneth Lee.

Veronica was active in her community, and was involved with and a proud member of the Church of Christ of Esbon and Beloit. She was also a member of the Esbon Lion's Club and the Odessa EHU.

Veronica died Nov. 11, 2021, at the Jewell County Hospital, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 14 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, James in 1976; and brother, Adam Geisel.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar of Esbon; son, Kenneth and his wife, Nancy, of Esbon; daughter, Linda Edwards and her husband, Stacey, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; grandchildren: Jason Edwards and his wife, Emily; Lindsay Manning and her husband, Montgomery; Leslie Cosgriff and her husband, Casey; Hannah Simpson and her husband, Ryan; Jason Lambert and his wife; Jessica; Andrea South and her husband, Mark; and Aaron Suelter; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., today (Thursday, Nov. 18) with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Melby Mortuary in Mankato.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 19, at the Odessa Cemetery, rural Esbon.

Memorials are requested to the Beloit Church of Christ or Esbon Community Church, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Melby Mortuary of Mankato assisted the Marihugh family with these arrangements.
