The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles volleyball team qualified for the state volleyball tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The Eagles have competed in both Class D-2 and D-1. They won the D-2 championship in 2018 and 2019, finished third in D-1 in 2017 and fourth in 2020 in D-1.
They breezed through their sub-district bracket played at Shickley. B-D-S was the number one seed. They downed Red Cloud in their opening D1-3 match last Monday. They topped Meridian to win the sub-district bracket last Tuesday and advance to the Class D1-8 district finals played at Aurora High School Saturday.
The Eagles tamed the Shelton Bulldogs, 3-1, to earn a berth at the state tournament.
The Eagles open state play as the number eight seed. They play number one seed Howells-Dodge today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. on the north court of Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena. Their progress to the championship or consolation bracket will be determined by the out come of Thursday’s match. Semi-Final rounds are played Friday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The final and consolation rounds will be played on the Devaney Center court on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
