The topsy-turvy season of the Rock Hills High School volleyball team concluded Saturday with their elimination from post-season play with their two-set loss, 9-25 and 13-25, to Thunder Ridge to Osborne Saturday at the first round sub-state qualifier.
The Grizzlies split their final regular season matches at the Lincoln triangular last Tuesday. Rock Hills swaept wilson, 25-18 and 25-8, in two sets. Thye fell to Lincoln in three sets, 15-25, 18-25 and 20-25.
The team ended 2021 their season with a 6-13 record.
Danica Frost and Lauren Whelchel committed six kills apiece against Wilson. Raylynn Anderes and Avery Brown added a kill each. Anderes and Daleton Groote served up two aces apiece. Haley Garst and Austyn Groote contributed an ace each. Frost, Garst and Whelchel came up with six digs apiece. Brown chipped in with five digs. A. Groote landed four digs. D. Groote anted up three digs for the Grizzlies.
D. Groote and Whelchel were five-time killers against Lincoln. Frost collected four kills. A. Groote nailed two kills. Anders and Brown each made a kill. D. Groote ripped through three aces. Frost scored with two aces. Brown had an ace. D. Groote loaded up with 21 digs. Brown popped up 18 digs. Frost and Whelchel took care of 10 digs each. Anderes popped up eight digs. A. Groote handled seven digs. Garst and Selena Luong put up six digs each.
For seniors Brown and D. Groote, the Thunder Ridge match was their final appearance as Grizzlies. Their leadership and work ethic set examples for the underclassmen to follow next season.
