Richard Degner

Richard H.W. Degner, 95, of Hebron, the son of Richard H. and Wilhemina (Rosenkoetter) Degner was born June 2, 1926 in Hebron. He died Thursday, Oct. 21, at Mary Lanning Health Care in Hasting.

Richard grew up on a farm by Friedensau, attending school and graduating from Deshler High School with the Class of 1944.

He was inducted in the United States Army March 22, 1945, during WWII.

He was honorably discharged Nov. 19, 1945.

After returning from the service, he was employed by the Soil Conservation Service and helped plant Nebraska National Forest in Halsey. Then he returned to the farm for his lifelong career of farming. He raised cattle and hogs.

From 1970 to 1980 he experimented with building solar power panels. It was fascinating to him. He also enjoyed fishing.

He married Viola Swanson Sept. 7, 1958, at Ammana Lutheran Church near Scandia. This union was blessed with the birth of two children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Degner, and sister, Erna Vieselmeyer.

He is survived by his wife, Viola of Hebron; son, Larry Degner of Hastings; daughter, Mrs, Steve Fick (Patricia) of Austin, Texas: and three grandchildren.

His funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 26,at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedensau with burial in the church

cemetery. Officiant was Pastor Jose Flores.
