Diana Dale (Dilley) Goebel, 86, died Oct. 17. She was born Sept. 4, 1935, at Lebanon, Kan., to Thelma (Rice) and Orville Dilley. She received her formal education attending Cora country school and graduated from the Lebanon High School. She was united in marriage with Junior Dean Goebel on Feb. 8, 1955, and settled in Red Cloud to make their home. After the Korean War and some time later, they
were blessed with a daughter, Barbara Jean, and brought her home on Easter of 1966.
On Feb. 3, 1974, Diana became a single parent with the death of her husband, Junior. She became a “mom” to many kids. In high school she worked at Flynn Super Market in Lebanon. After her marriage she worked at the Lockhart Cafe. Other jobs included the Red Cloud Post Office, when the Willa Cather Stamp came out; Red Cloud Sale Barn Cafe; the beginning of the Peanut Cream pies; Red Cloud School lunch room cook; Child care; Corral Cafe; Sugar & Spice Drive-In cook. She took care of two elderly persons and finally
cleaned at the Food Mart meat department for several years. She then retired.
Diana volunteered for Meals on Wheels; taught Sunday School at Red
Cloud Bible Church for 13 years, where she was a member. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer since 1975, and an auxiliary member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars from 1965. She had election board duty for many years and was working there the day before giving birth to her daughter. Her greatest enjoyment was working outside gardening. She also enjoyed crafting, collecting things, crocheting and cooking.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Junior Goebel; parents Thelma and Orville Dilley; her twin brothers, Gerold and Merold Dilley.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Goebel, of Red Cloud.
Her funeral is at 10:30 a.m.,today Oct. 28, at the Red Cloud Bible Church with Pastor Gary Bennett officiating. Interment will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery.
