"Save the best until the last"

"Save the best until the last"

We're not sure this applies in running a Cross Country race, but the South Central Red Raiders boys (Sandy Creek and Lawrence-Nelson) seemed to do that at the Class C-4 District Meet at Aurora last week. The girls did not run.

The district meet had a total of 12 teams for the event and the Red Raiders finished in sixth place with a score of 99. Minden won the district with 41 points, Aurora had 42, Adams Central 69, St. Paul 87, Boone Central 98 and South Central 99.

Coach Randi Fox noted: "I'm incredibly proud of these six boys. They all ran incredible races. They all raced season best times. Jacob is a senior and had the goal of running a sub 20 minutes. He accomplished that at the district."

Three teams and the top 15 times qualify to compete at the state meet. For the Red Raiders, freshman, Rowan Jarosik placed fourth with a time of 17:19; Logan Menke finished 11th with a time of 17:46. Both earned medals and the state qualifier positions.

Other team members were: Sean Heaton 40th 19:24; Jacob Hagemeier 44th 19:44; Theo Kathman 62nd 21:32; Itzamna Diaz 68th 22:41.

Rowan and Logan will run at the state meet next Friday at Kearney at 1:30 p.m. Coach Fox noted: "They are running the best I have seen them run all season."

Rowan qualifies for the state in his freshman year and Logan qualifies for his second appearance at state in his senior year.
