Raider Football makes State Playoffs for 21st time

The newspaper has mentioned before what tough schedules the NSAA arranges for the L-N Raider Football Team year after year. 2021 was no difference and the Raiders had a little trouble during the year matching up with their hopes and expectations.

The Raiders (and neighboring Blue Hill) are the only D-2 teams that faced two 8-0 teams this season. In addition L-N faced one 7-1 team and one 5-3 team.

The Class D-2 State Playoff team is made up with 12 district winners and 20 'wildcard' team for a total of 32 teams. There are 52 Class D-2 teams in the state. The 32 teams are put into an East and a West bracket for the initial round of games and then will be put into one 16 team state-wide bracket for the rest of the games.

L-N is a relatively 'new' school, starting joint football in 1999. The year 2021 makes the 23rd year of Raider football in the history book and 2021 is the 21st year of competing in the state playoffs.

The Raider's 3-5 years makes it one of three teams in the playoffs with a 3-5 record. They are the 16th seeded team and in the West Division and will play Sandhills-Thedford (8-0), the No. 1 rated team. The game will be played at 4 p.m., in Dunning, Neb., on Thursday, Oct. 21.

We join the community in congratulating the 2021 Raider team as they uphold a proud tradition and character. We wish you luck.
