Mankato Chamber of Commerce discuss upcoming events

Eight members and one guest were present at the regular monthly meeting for the Mankato Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 13 at the Bob’s of Mankato. Brian Shulda, vice president, called the meeting to order.

The Community Birthday Calendars are printed.

The Community Garden is wrapping up for the year. It will be tilled in November so it is ready for next season.

The Highway 36 Garage Sale Mall took place Sept. 16 to 18. There were three booths rented this year and everyone seemed to have a good turn out.

The chamber briefly discussed Mankato’s 150th Celebration. The chamber will invite Emma Walker to next month’s meeting to give an update about the committee’s work so the chamber will know what they are needing help with.

The chamber continued discussing the two travel bloggers who will be traveling along Highway 36 this spring. They will be in Mankato Saturday April 9. The cost for the airbnb would be $135 for the night. It will be looked into as to what paperwork is needed to be filed to make sure the council is moving forward with this project.

Downtown Trick-or-Treat will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Oct. 29. The Pumpkin Decorating Contest will also take place that day. Contestants can leave their pumpkins on the bench in front of the museum from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and pick them back up when the winners are announced at 5. First place will receive $10 in Chamber Bucks and two tickets to the Ute. Second place will receive two tickets to the Ute. Third place will receive $10 in Chamber Bucks. Those interested in participating in the Downtown Trick-or-Treat but are not located downtown businesses can join others downtown and trunk-or-treat.

An update was given about Santa’s Workshop. The committee has had three fundraisers and has raised $1,821.32 for this year’s event. There will be a meeting soon to plan the event that is set for Dec. 10 and 11. Contact Sara Reiter if interested in helping.

The downtown committee met with Barry Parsons last week to start the planning of “Christmas in Mankato”. This year “Christmas in Mankato” will take place Nov. 27. The downtown businesses will be open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with specials, snacks and drawings. At 6 p.m., there will be a Santa Parade, snacks and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in the park. With the help of the chamber and the city, it is free this year to any businesses who wish to participate. The city will be displaying “postcards” in the park by the Christmas tree. The postcards need to be a decent sized sign (4’x8’ piece of plywood is suggested) painted  with a Christmas greeting from the business. Postcards must be taken to the city office by Nov. 19 and they will put them at the park.

Comedian Josh Novey is coming to the Mankato Community Center at 7 p.m., Nov. 5. Tickets are $25 each. Josh is a clean comedian, so every time he goes on stage you know the whole family will be able to enjoy it.

The next meeting will take place Nov. 10, at the Buffalo Roam.
