Doyall Dean Hartley, 84, of Chester, the son of Leslie (Bill) and Hazel (Degenhardt) Hartley, was born Nov. 17, 1936, in Hebron. He died Oct. 5, at his residence in Chester.
Doyall grew up in Chester and graduated from Chester High School with the Class of 1954. He was proud to be a part of the 1953 state championship basketball team, that was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.
After graduation, Doyall went to work in Lincoln, Neb., for a short time,
but his love for the farm brought him back home and he started farming with his dad. Doyall also worked for Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron and Deshler.
Doyall married Rogene Larsen March 12, 1961, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron. This union was blessed with the birth of one son, Darren.
Doyall and Rogene enjoyed traveling together to Alaska, the Panama Canal and various other places.
Doyall was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chester. He took great pride in his church and was eager to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. He was a member of the rural fire department.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beth Effenbeck
He is survived by his wife, Rogene of Chester; son, Darren Hartley, Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Bert Gausman of Chester; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His funeral was Saturday, at the United Methodist Church in Chester.
