SHS girls golf team are state bound

The remarkable Cinderella story of the Superior High School girls golf team continues. The long moribund program was revitalized by an effort of the girls who played with the boys golf team last season. The team worked diligently over the summer . They practiced frequently. They held fundraisers. They walked on the course for their first match and made a statement: we are to be reckoned with.

They won one invitational event and finished second and third in others.

The litmus test of their forward progress was today when they took to the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Lincoln seeking a berth at the state tournament.

The 15 teams in the District C-1 match were fighting for one of three places at the state tournament to played at the Elks Country Club in Columbus Monday and Tuesday.

Superior more than met their expectations. The team finished in third place with their team score of 417. This secured the entire team a trip to the state event. Rayne Biltoft, a freshman, took seventh place in the individual standings with Emma Henderson in eighth place.

It is a remarkable story of perseverance, hard work and dedication. Now to see what lies ahead Monday and Tuesday in state competition.
