Raider Volleyball goes 2-3 in busy tournament week

Volleyball schedules can vary quite a bit from week to week. Last week was a busy one for the L-N Lady Raider team. They took part in the annual St. Cecilia Invitational Tournament in Hastings and faced three C-2 and two, D-1 teams in the process.

In the course of the week, they defeated one C-2 team and one D-1 team. The three teams they lost to have a combined 45-10 won-loss record.

Summaries:

L-N – SUPERIOR: 25-22, 22-25, 11-25: This was the second time of this season meeting Superior and the Raiders picked up one Set win against the recently powerful Wildcats. It wasn’t until the final Set the Raiders had trouble.

Generally L-N’s serving assists them in most games, but in this game, Elsa Jorgensen recorded two Ace serves, and that was it for L-N. Kills were down somewhat as well, but Emma Epley was able to pound 10 kills throughout the game.

(Kills, Ace, Digs) Sydney Biltoft 2, 0, 0; Aleah Heikkinen 4, 0, 4; Emma Epley 10, 0, 10; Elsa Jorgensen 0, 2, 8; Katelyn Mazour 2, 0, 7; Emily Troudt 1, 0, 2; Hanna Skinner 0, 0, 0; Kara Menke 0, 0, 1;

L-N – WOOD RIVER: 19-25, 25-18, 26-24: The Lady Raiders picked up their first win in the tournament against Wood River. They did it with a strong game in almost all of the statistical categories. Emma led the team in Kills with 11 connecting on 23 of 30 attacks. Kara had 7 on 19 of 20 good attacks and Aleah also had 7 on 20 of 26 attacks.

Ace serves were also important as the Lady Raiders exceeded their average as well. Kara had 3 while Emma and Elsa each had 2. Ball Handling was also a strong point as Katelyn had 16 Assists and Emma had nine.

L-N – ST. CECILIA: 20-25, 17-25: The girls did not play especially bad in this game, it was just that St. Cecilia played very, very well. The Raider attacks were led by Emma who recorded six kills with Sydney adding five and Kara four, the team hit their average of the season. St. Cecilia just did somewhat better recording 29 kills in the two set game.

Serve receptions were a strong point for the team having only three errors for the game. St. Cecilia had four.

(Kills, Ace, Digs) Sydney Biltoft 5, 0, 0; Aleah Heikkinen 3, 1, 3; Emma Epley 6, 1, 4; Elsa Jorgensen 0, 1, 0; Katelyn Mazour 1, 0, 4; Hanna Skinner 1, 0, 8; Kylie Beard 1, 0, 0; Kara Menke 4, 0, 4.

Serve Receive: Elsa 25 – 25, Sydney 6-6, Aleah 4-5.

L-N – CROSS COUNTY: 25-23, 18-25, 16-25: The Raiders may have surprised the Class D-1 powerhouse Cross County and stole the first Set in this game. Cross County had a strong ‘net game’. An interesting fact for the game is that while both teams had roughly an equal number of ‘Attacks’, L/N had fewer Attack errors. Cross County, however, had 45 kills to only 21 for L/N.

The same was true for Serving: L-N had only two service errors (58-60) and had three Aces, while Cross County had ten service errors (62-72) but had five Ace serves.

L-N did have the better game in Blocking. Sydney had 2 Solo blocks and one Assist; Aleah has 1 Solo and 3 Assists while Emma and Kara each had an Assist and Kylie had 2 Assists.

(Kills, Ace, Digs) Sydney Biltoft 4, 0, 1; Aleah Heikkinen 1, 1, 6; Emma Epley 11, 1, 3; Elsa Jorgensen 1, 1, 12; Katelyn Mazour 2, 0, 12; Hanna Skinner 0, 0, 14; Kylie Beard 1, 0, 1; Kara Menke 1, 0, 1.
