The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders took the stinger out of the Giltner Hornets Friday with a 70-43 win.
Things didn’t look promising as the first quarter came to a close as the Raiders trailed 9-6. A revitalized team took the field for the second quarter and put 36 points on the score board while limiting Giltner to 14 points to take a 42-22 lead into the half. The Raiders continued their offensive onslaught in the third quarter adding 26 points while holding the Hornets to six points to take an insurmountable 70-28 lead into the final 12 minutes of the game. Liberal substitutions by the Raiders gave playing experience to lesser utilized team members. Giltner added two meaningless touchdowns to close the gap to 70-43 but the Raiders lead was never threatened. The win evened the Raiders record at 3-3.
Krayton Kucera filled the airways with 15 pass attempts as he completed 12 for 207 yards and four touchdowns.
Bayln Bargen snagged three passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Tyson Kotinek grabbed three passes for 52 yards and a touchdown Erik Wheeland capitalized on his one 40 yard reception by turning it into a touchdown. Toby Kotinek pulled in four passes for 28 yards. Connor Janda nabbed a pass for 26 yards.
Kucera was the top Raider ground gainer picking up 105 yards and four touchdowns with his 9 carries. Toby Kotinek pounded out 37 yards and a touchdown with his eight carries. Emilio Pano scored a touch down with his lone three yard carry. Bargen covered 17 yards on five carries. Janda took the ball twice for nine yards. Devyn Zikmund was good for five yards with his three carries.
Kucera led the defensive effort with seven solo tackles and six assisted tackles. Wyatt Brockman and Wheeland made three solo tackles and had an assisted tackles each. Janda and Toby Kotinek posted two solo tackles and four assists apiece. Clay Williams, Aidan Zikmund and Devyn Zikmund landed two solo tackles each. AJ Kohler nailed down a solo tackle and four assists. Roy Davidson collected a solo tackle and three assisted tackles. Tyson Kotinek kept a solo tackles and seven assists for the Raiders. Bargen recorded a solo tackle. Sawyer Cox and Jacob Swift registered two assisted tackles each. Wyatt Baker, Keaton Mazour, Rocky Miller and Pano were good for an assisted tackle each
The Osceola Bulldogs bring their 5-1 record to Lawrence Friday for what looks to be a tough test for the rebounding Raiders. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
