Jewell County Commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe met last Monday. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, was present for the meeting.
The following were present for office head meeting: Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Nancy Marihugh, health administrator; Anna Porter, county appraiser; Alexandria Carabajal, county attorney; and Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator. Those absent; Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension District director; Shannon Meier, ambulance director; Travis Garst, solid waste director; Chris Petet, custodian; Don Jacobs, sheriff; Brenda Eakins, treasurer; and Joel Elkins, general superintendent.
Amanda Davis said she plans to attend the fall district meeting next Friday at Lincoln Kansas.
Anna Porter reported they have completed 98 percent of the data collection and all of the quality control is complete. Anna said the program conversion is 95 percent complete. She said Jewell County is in compliance with state guidelines.
Kevin Peroutek said he attended the Annual KEMA Conference. He discussed the ARPA Grant and consideration for an application deadline. He said they have been finding bindweed regrowth and are spraying along some of the roads. He volunteered to work in the noxious weed director’s booth at the state fair. He said Nov. 18, Jewell County will be hosting the regional meeting for the noxious weed directors.
Nancy Marihugh said for COVID-19 cases in August there were 15 cases and to date in September there are 72. She said they provided 52 COVID-19 vaccines. She discussed regulations on boosters. She reported they have set up a Flu Shot Clinic schedule and it will be posted to the county website and Facebook page. She said September was National Preparedness Month. She met with USD 107 for quarantine protocol. She said Jewell County is ranked 105th out of 105 counties for COVID-19 cases per capita. She also said the Mankato Senior Center had an exposure to COVID-19 and was shut down by NCK Area Agency on Aging.
Faith Reinert, Aaron Underwood, and Jacob Underwood, Jewell County 4-H representatives, and Tonia Underwood, 4-H program coordinator, joined the meeting to request that the county commissioners sign the 4-H Proclamation for Oct. 3 through Oct. 9, as National 4-H Week. The motion passed unanimously.
Alex Carabajal reported the following for the month of September: 71 traffic cases; four felony, two pending DUI cases, seven juvenile cases; and three fish and game cases. She will be attending a continuing education class.
Carla Waugh said she is working on the KCAMP insurance renewal, verifying all property, vehicles and equipment is listed correctly.
Steve Greene said he attended the economic development meeting, the juvenile detention center meeting, and all commissioners attended the road and bridge new shop open house.
Brent Beck said he has been coordinating with Road & Bridge on a project.
A resolution authorizing and approving a supplemental trust indenture by and among the county, the board of trustees of Jewell County Hospital and Security Bank of Kansas City, Kansas. The county authorized and approved the Supplemental Indenture, which extends the maturity of the Series 2018-A Bonds from June 1, 2021, to Nov. 1, 2021.
Joel Elkins, general superintendent, joined the meeting. Greene reviewed road concerns. Beck asked about a tube for Brett Behrends. The commissioners approved the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Local Road Safety Plan for Jewell County.
