Meyer family receives Fischer Family Award
The Nebraska High School Hall of Fame held its 2021 induction ceremony at Lincoln East High School, Lincoln, Sunday.
The Fischer Family Award was presented to the Denny and Adeline Meyer family. The award honors families whose involvement, contributions and leadership made a significant impact on the high school sports scene. The award represents the strong family principles which are the basis for much of high school athletics.
Denny and Adeline Meyer resided near Superior. Denny was a dairy farmer while Adeline operated the Doll Fashions store. They were the parents of six sons: Dan, Randy, Greg, Kent, Rick and Andy.
Denny competed in football and track at Superior High School from 1941 to 1944.
Dan competed in football, basketball, track and baseball. Randy competed in football and wrestling. Greg and Kent played football, basketball and competed in track. Rick played football, basketball, competed in track and played baseball. Andy took part in football, basketball and track.
Throughout their careers, each was part of teams which achieved success at the state level.
Randy is an Omaha architect and the owner of the Superior Winery.
Andy and Peggy Meyer reside on a farm near Superior. Andy is the former head track coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He currently farms. Andy is the holder of the state Class B discus throw record which he set in 1989.
Andy and Peggy Meyer have seen their daughters, Alex, Kalynn, Leah and Shayla achieve success in several sports.
Kalynn is the current state meet record holder in the discus which she set in 2019. She was also a member of the Class C-2 state volleyball and basketball teams. Kalynn is a meber of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball team. Alex and Leah competed at the Division 1 level in track and field. Shayla is a current member of the Superior High School volleyball team. She also plays basketball and competes for the track team.
