Excellence in 4-H Project Work on display at Kansas State Fair

Learn by Doing; that is the 4-H slogan. Loaves of bread, collections of insects, rockets, handmade clothing garments and racks of photos lined the display stands in the Centennial Hall at the Kansas State Fair as evidence of 4-H members' hard work throughout the past year. People who attended the Kansas State Fair could have viewed these 4-H project exhibits from Sept. 10 through 19.

Nora Rhoades, Post Rock District youth development agent and district director said, "The state fair is an opportunity for 4-H members to showcase what they have learned through their projects, interests and personal development throughout the year. At the Kansas State Fair, the top exhibits from each of the state's 105 counties are judged. Judges evaluate the exhibits to provide feedback to each participating youth while also recognizing the top exhibits on showcase. Additionally, youth are able to participate in a variety of judging contests, volunteer opportunities and career discovery experiences to explore interests and make great memories. The Kansas State Fair, in Hutchinson, is a premier event and Post Rock District is proud of our 4-H members' success!"

For 4-H projects to earn a spot at the state fair, the youth had to qualify at the county level. All exhibits earn a ribbon from the state fair. A few photography and visual arts exhibits are chosen for display in state government offices or at Rock Springs 4-H Center for a year. This year's Jewell County exhibit results are:
