Margaret Ann (May) Ketterer, 88, was born Dec. 24, 1932, on the family farm in Jewell County, Kan., the daughter of Floyd May and Mary (Sweet) May. She died at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas on Sept. 19.
Margaret grew up on the farm, attended rural schools, and graduated from Montrose High School in 1950. She married Alfred Shaffer on Oct. 15, 1954; he died in February 1988. To this union one daughter was born, Alfreda Marie.
She married Daniel "Pat" Ketterer on Feb. 9, 1990; he survives of the home. Margaret's life revolved around family and trucking. She was a short-order cook at Chris' Truck Stop; owned Shaffer Trucking with Alfred; Margaret was also a bookkeeper secretary for CNC Truckline of Concordia; and went over-the-road trucking with Daniel until she was forced to retire because of health issues.
Margaret is also survived by her daughter, Alfreda (Burl) Maley; grandchildren, Matt (Anita) Collins; Jesica Collins; and Jenifer Doyle; sisters, Alice Rice, and Mary Sue (Paul Dean) Elsey; stepchildren, Marietta Fiarkoski, Jerry (Judy) Shaffer; Patty (Bill) Bristol; Brian (Katie) Ketterer; and Kathy (Joey) Prochniewski; and a host of extended family and friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; and brothers, Tom May, John May and Harold May. She chose cremation and per her request there will be no services.
