Do you have your “Bucket List” written down and starting to cross things off of it? For those who haven’t heard of what a Bucket List is, it’s a list visiting places, doing things and seeing sights a person wants to do or see before they leave this ole world behind. Sounds a little morbid but facing the facts, the appointed time will come, sometimes sooner than later.
When I first heard the term Bucket List, it was when my husband and I attended the 2007 movie so named. It starred two seasoned actors, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. The story was woven around two terminally ill men who made a Bucket List plan to escape the hospital and head off with a wish list of to do’s. There was also a Tim McGraw song that went along this same theme. The lyrics told what he’d like to accomplish such as riding a bull for 2.7 seconds, climbing a rocky mountain and jumping from a plane, all of which would not be included on my Bucket List.
Recently I learned of three women who said they had crossed things off their Bucket List. One woman had just visited Niagara Falls, a place she longed to visit. She showed breathtaking photos of the Falls. Another woman had taken a hot air balloon ride and had also posted photos from high up in the sky. The third woman showed photos of her skydiving out of an airplane.
I have never made my Bucket List, but maybe it’s time to get out the pen and paper and think of what I’d like to get accomplished. I’m no risk taker as I broke my leg once and don’t care to have any other broken bones so that leaves out riding a bull. I don’t do well with heights so that leaves out mountain climbing, jumping out of airplanes or riding in hot air balloons. I guess seeing sights would be a good thing to add to my list. My father who was stationed in Hawaii during WWII always longed to return there but he never did. Sometimes I’d like to go there so it could be a destination on my list. Since I have an interest in history, I’d like to visit all the Civil War battlefields, tour Ireland where some of my ancestors came from and see castles in England. Since my husband and my ancestors came from the same area in Switzerland, that would be a good trip. My Bucket List is expanding. I’d better start accomplishing these trips and get to crossing them off!
