SHS volleyball wins seventh straight

After a season opening loss to undefeated Class C-1 (10-0) Grand Island Central Catholic, the Superior High School volleyball team has reeled off eight consecutive wins.

The Wildcats downed Doniphan-Trumbull, at Doniphan, last Tuesday in two sets, 25-11 and 25-22. It took five set to put away . They took care of Kenesaw in two sets, 25-11 and 25-22.

It took five sets to put away Bruning-Davenport-Shickley at Shickley, Thursday. After dropping the first two sets, 20-25 and 20-25, the Wildcats roared back to take three consecutive sets, 25-19, 25-18 and 15-9 to earn the win. Superior romped through the field at the Sandy Creek Invitational, at Sandy Creek, Saturday. The Wildcats once again disposed of the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals in two sets, 25-20 and 25-19. They put away the Ravenna Bluejays in two sets, 25-13 and 25-16. Superior finished the day with a two-set, 25-13 and 25-9 win against the Arcadia-Loup City Rebels to improve to 8-1 for the season. Superior hosted Sutton at the high school gymnasium, Tuesday, with match results unavailable at press time.

Teegan Duncan, Madison Heusinkvelt and Shayla Meyer accounted for four kills each. Cailyn Barry added two kills against Doniphan-Trumbull. Duncan and Meyer served up two aces apiece. Barry added an ace. Duncan, Atlee Kobza and Meyer recorded five digs apiece. Ella Gardner had a dig.

Meyer established 16 kills against Kenesaw. Duncan put down four kills. Brooklyn Grabast made two kills. Barry and Heusinkvelt had a kill each. Barry slashed through six aces. Duncan and Heusinkvelt contributed three aces apiece. Ella Gardner, Meyer and Sadie Rempel had an ace apiece.

E. Gardner accounted for six digs. Barry, Kobza and Meyer collected five digs apiece. Duncan and Rempel landed three digs each. Mikynzie Hansen had a dig. Statistics were unavailable for the B-D-S match and Arcadia-Loup City matches were unavailable at press time.

Duncan, Heusinkvelt and Meyer recorded four kills each against Ravenna. Barry registered two kills. Duncan and Meyer were good for two aces each. Barry had an ace. Duncan, Kobza and Meyer recorded five digs each. E. Gardner had a dig.

Meyer topped the Wildcat kill list in the Doniphan-Trumbull rematch with 16. Duncan chipped in four kills. Heusinkvelt added three kills. Barry and E. Gardner had a kill apiece. Barry scored with five aces while Duncan zipped through three. Meyer posted a block for the match. Duncan, Kobza and Meyer accounted for seven digs each. Barry nailed six digs. E. Gardner dug the ball out three times. Rempel had a dig.

Superior hosts a triangular meet at the high school gymnaium, Saturday. Blue Hill and Alma will provide the competetion. The Fairbury Jeffs pay a visit to Superior on Tuesday.
