SHS football drops season opener

By the time the Superior Wildcats football team shook off their first game jitters, the Centennial Broncos held a 14-0 lead. Superior’s defense sputtered at the opening of the first quarter. while their play vastly improved, it was too little too late. Superior trailed 14-0 after the first period.

Centennial picked up another score in the second period with the Wildcats blocking the extra point kick to face a 20-0 deficit as the half drew to a close. A Dane Miller to James Love pass put Superior on the board with less than six seconds remaining in the half, to trail 20-6.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they were unable to kick start their offense. While playing tough defense, they were worn down by numbers, 24 on the Superior roster as opposed to 44 on the Centennial Bronco roster. High humidity and heat also took a toll. Centennial scored a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters to take home a 34-6 win.

Dane Miller completed five of his 13 passes for 49 yards and one touchdown.

Jacob Meyer grabbed three receptions for 34 yards. Love nabbed two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown.

Miller was the top Wildcat ground carrier with 15 carries for 20 yards. Clayton Morris had ten carries for 50 yards. Brown carried the ball 10 times for 28 yards. Tyler Everhart took the ball twice for 14 yards. Love netted a yard for his one carry. Matt Colgrove was a negative one yard with his sole carry. Hayden Neeman picked up 10 yards with his lone carry.
