The Nuckolls County Extension Office located in Nelson will be closed Monday so office personnel may attend the festivities honoring Jean Stichka, Nuckolls County Extension office manager since August of 1994. On Monday, Stichka will serve as the grand marshal of the state fair celebration parade.
The tradition of the grand marshal program is an opportunity to honor those who have contributed to the state fair and 4-H activities across Nebraska. She was nominated for the honor by the Nuckolls County Fair Board.
Stichka has done more than just serve as the office secretary. She has taught extension classes, served on numerous state, county and district committees, helped with the state fair beef show, entered static entry results for the state fair, helped transfer information between offices in Lincoln and Grand Island, worked with the county fair board and local cattlemen’s association, assisted with the Thayer County Fair, and served on the state extension computer core team. When county government day comes around, she has been one of the long term workers. She currently serves as leader of the Alban 4-H Club.
On Monday she will be honored at a reception starting at 10 a.m. and will serve as grand marshal of the 6 p.m. parade.
All area residents are invited to attend and join in the festivities.
Stichka is thought to be the first Nuckolls County resident to receive the award.
