Commissioners hear report on COVID and vaccines

The Jewell County Commissioners met Aug. 16. Commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk were present for the meeting.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, reviewed the July activity and billing reports. He reported two EMS units were out of service. Meier said they had a busy weekend with 12 runs.

Brian Freeman, Republic County Rural Water District No. 1, inquired about ARPA funds to be used for the RPCO RWD. He said the district tries to replace a mile of line each year and repairs to the booster station. The funds would be used on repairs in Jewell County.

Rex Boley, USD 107 superintendent, said 195 students are being transported each day. He thanked the road and bridge department for maintenance on the roads. He also thanked the health department for their cooperation. He discussed preliminary enrollment and bus routes.

Paul Pumphrey reported that to the west of 190 and T roads a tree has washed into the tube.

Chris Petet, custodian, reported Heineken Electric will be at the courthouse for repairs to the generator per the fire marshall’s inspection.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, said the tube was delivered to Y Rd. The commissioners reported Paul Pumphrey’s concern about the tree in the tube west of 190 and T roads. They also shared the thank you from the school district. The commissioners discussed other road concerns.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, discussed personnel, grants and reported two positive active COVID-19 cases. She discussed new regulations for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for immunocompromised patients. She said COVID-19 testing has increased. The commissioners shared the thank you from the school district.
