Ralph Leroy Platt was born Feb. 2, 1937, to Vera Marie (Chapman) Platt on his grandparent’s farm near Webber.
Ralph attended school in a Bostwick country school northwest of Superior and Superior High School. He was called Sonny by his relation and friends. He worked many jobs in his life, farming with the granddad, where at the age of 9 years he learned to run tractors and care for livestock. He enjoyed horses and was an accomplished rider. He worked construction. Some of his accomplishments he was proud of were helping to build two grain elevators in Topeka, Kan., and the North Ward school. He enjoyed his time in Missouri, where his daughter was born and often talked about Missouri and the friends he made there.
He returned to Superior in 1960. He worked for Bill Morris Ford. In Superior, he met the love of his life, Helen Ahrens. They were married in 1962, a marriage that lasted many years. In his later years, he was an over the road trucker, crop sprayer and employee for Superior Deshler.
After retirement, he enjoyed helping harvest for the Simonsen family. He also enjoyed time with Helen and at Lovewell Lake.
Ralph was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother and step-dad; his daughter, Melody; and a grandson, Adam; and his sister, Doris.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; one sister, Linda; granddaughter. Ashley; and a great-granddaughter.
Ralph’s favorite saying was “I was born poor, lived poor and died poor,” which he did Aug. 6, 2021 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Arrangements were made by Megrue-Price Funeral Home as he requested there was no funeral, only a graveside service.
