Jewell County was asking for 28 bridges for the year, but the commissioners were going to cut the number down to those that seemed an absolute necessity. The commissioners were going over the ground themselves before passing judgment.
Merchants were candling eggs and paying seven cents for the good ones.
The Mankato Advocate was 11 years old and it was regarded as one of the first clean papers in this part of the state.
A large portion of the stock in Jewell County was on a straw diet and wheat rations. The rest would come to it. Charlie Sheldon hauled water from town, four barrels at a clip.
There would be no Jewell County Fair for the year. The stockholders met at the Advocate office, and in view of the general crop failure and the scarcity of anything in the way of exhibits, it was voted to cancel the event.
A.R.F.D. route was established from Montrose north to Montana Township line. It went into operation Aug. 1.
There was no longer any government land in Jewell County. Sam Wright made final proof at Mankato on the last 40 acres.
