Competing in rodeo is one of Rempel's many interests

Sadie Rempel is the 16-year-old daughter of Brent and Lea Rempel. The family lives on a small farm north of Nelson. Sadie will be a junior at Superior High School this fall. Sadie has been competing in the youth rodeo circuit since 7th grade. This year alone, she has competed in around 40 rodeos.

Sadie caught the eye of one of our newspaper photographers while she was competing at the Nuckolls County Rodeo. The event was Breakaway, and she roped her calf in three seconds. She would have tied for first place had she not broken the 10-second barrier.

Sadie likes to ride and the competition rodeo provides. She practices every day; whether it is roping or riding, she lives for rodeo most of the year.

Breakaway is her favorite event to compete in, but she also does heeling, heading, poles and barrels. She has three horses, Coco, Calypso, and Autumn. Coco and Calypso are her roping horses. Autumn is her poles and barrels horse.

Sadie is also active in 4-H and is one of the current 4-H Ambassadors. She could not attend the 4-H horse show this year but did have her artwork and leather work on display in the static exhibits. She is a talented artist. Her favorite classes in school are art and chemistry. She enjoys playing volleyball in the fall. She said it gives her a chance to just hang with the girls. In the spring, Sadie competes in track, with pole vault as her favorite event. In the future, Sadie plans to go to school to become an optometrist.
