JC Commissioners re-appoint Meier to hospital board

The Jewell County commissioners met last Monday. Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe were present. Carla J Waugh, county clerk; Alex Carabajal, county attorney; Ashley Schinke and Collin Todd were also present.

The commissioners re-appointed Shannon Meier to the Jewell County Hospital Board of Trustees.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, reviewed the June billing and activity report. He requested an executive session to discuss confidential data relating to financial affairs. When the regular session resumed, the commissioners approved to write off $6,444.62 for the second quarter of 2021 for EMS. Meier requested and received approval of the Education Incentive Grant Program through the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services.

The agreement between the Jewell County Health Department and USD 107 Rock Hills passed unanimously.

Alex Carabajal, county attorney, requested approval to paint a mural on the east wall in her office. She designed the mural and will paint it herself. The commissioners gave their approval.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, reported on maintenance projects. He was asked if 160 Road from Mankato north could be graded to bring all the gravel out of the ditch.

Judge Kevin Phillips discussed repairs needed for the restrooms in the Judge’s Chambers. Judge Phillips discussed finding a grant to assist with repairs.

Jeremy McGuire, BCBS Representative, reviewed the nine-month experience review for the period of the Sept.1, 2020 through May 31, 2021.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, requested permission to hire a part-time dispatcher who lives out of county. The hiring was approved.
