Love my Crazy Life

By Teraesa Bruce

This week I am writing to you from the pool. With the fair beginning and half of my guards off to church camp, I am short-staffed, so I am down here “managing” things. Working at the pool is like that dream, you know the one, you are standing in front of the class in your underwear!

George took his vacation days to work on the money pit. It’s been chaotic, to say the least. He and Jacob spent several days pulling wires, framing for windows, installing a door and cursing. So much cursing. LOL. For a while, I kept trying to correct the language but, in the end, gave up and turned up the radio so I couldn’t hear it. I really hope the neighbors don’t hate me for it.

As for myself, when I wasn’t doing the newspaper thing or the pool thing, I was cleaning and removing paneling, wallpaper and plaster, all of which are covered in a layer of soot. So I spent much of the last week covered in ick, which I have tracked back into my bathroom. My once white shower curtain is destroyed; I will have to find a new one once this is all over.

I visited the fair on Sunday evening. I took a walk through the horse barns to reminisce. I miss my horses sometimes, but I quickly snap back to reality when I think of winters with livestock and mending fences in the summer heat. I have quite a few fond memories of my 4-H years and those fairgrounds. I am happy to see the tradition is still alive and the grounds keep improving. It was fun to watch the “mutton bustin.” My friend’s little girl practically wrestled that sheep to the ground. They told her not to let go, and that is exactly what she did! I think that one has a future in rodeo! X’s & O’s
