Darlene Wiedel

Darlene Antoinette Wiedel, 92, of Hebron, was born March 13, 1929 to

Anton and Wilma (Stephenson) Fleming on a farm in Republic County.

She died Thursday, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler.

She grew up in Republic County attending and graduating from Republic High School with the Class of 1946. She took summer classes and correspondence classes at Kansas State University to receive her teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room country school until 1951.

Darlene was united in marriage to Ernest Wiedel Aug. 9, 1950, at St. Edward Church in Belleville. This union was blessed with the birth of three children.

The couple moved to a farm west of Hebron.

Darlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, member and past president of St. Ann’s Altar Society, member of the Neighborhood Club, and Extension Club. She played golf, bridge, and gardened. She canned the produce and was a whiz at dressing chickens. She enjoyed cooking for her family, especially baked steak, fried chicken and pies.

Later in life she worked at the Style Shop, and Hebron Livestock Café.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; and son-in-law, Ben Long.

She is survived by sons, Alan and Gregg Wiedel, both of Hebron; and one daughter, Yvonne Long of Billings, Mont.

Her funeral was held Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron. Officiant was Father Steve Major. A Rosary was held Monday at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron.
