Lannie Hanel

Lannie Lee Hanel, 74, died Thursday. He was born on May 17, 1947, to William Arnold and Olive Grace (Houdek) Hanel. Lannie grew up on the family farm. He attended Agenda schools and played 6-man football for the Agenda Huskies, graduating in 1965.

Following high school, Lannie attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1971 with his doctorate in veterinary medicine.

In 1970, he married Kathy Craig, and to this union, two daughters were

born, Kasey and Kelly. Dr. Hanel started his veterinary career in Courtland in 1971. He opened his own practice at its current location just north of Courtland, in 1977. In 1985, he married Sue Macy, and to this union a son, Brock, was born. In 2007, he remarried Tyra Frye.

In his young adult years, Lannie enjoyed competing in the rodeo arena,

team roping and steer wrestling. When he wasn’t working, he could be found relaxing at the cabin on the lake or playing a round of golf. Lannie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He travelled the United States, and even to Canada to partake in the pastimes he enjoyed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wives, Sue and Tyra.

He is survived by his children: daughter, Kasey Frost of Baldwin City, daughter, Kelly McCauley of Holton; son, Brock Hanel of Courtland; grandchildren; and his sister, Cheryl Denk of Agenda.

His funeral was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday. Burial followed at the Courtland Cemetery.
