The Superior High School golf team competed at the District C-4 boys golf match played over the Indianhead Golf Course at Grand Island last Wednesday. The team and its individual members were attempting to qualify for a berth at the state championship being played over the Kearney Country Club this Tuesday and Wednesday. At stake were one of the three team spots. Individuals from non-top three teams who finished in the top 10 of individual scores also qualified.
When the last putt of the event was in the hole, the Wildcats were shut out of the state match. They finished in 14th place, in the 15 team field, with a team score of 445. No Superior golfer finished in the top 10. Other teams at the event were Doniphan-Trumbull, Grand Island Central Catholic, Ord, Sandy Creek, Kearney Catholic, Amherst, Arcadia-Loup City, Alma, Gibbon, Wood River, Centura, Ravenna, St. Paul and Central City.
Conner Blackstone ended his Superior playing career with a round of 90. He had started every Wildcat golf match since his freshman year but a place at the state match had eluded him. His reliability and steady leadership will be missed.
Emma Henderson logged a round of 117. Aaron Allgood turned in a round of 118. Haley Blackstone carded a round of 120. Bayln Bargen left the course with a round of 125. The four lowest individual scores are used to calculate the team score.
The girls golf program will return to Superior High School in the fall after a hiatus of several years. At least seven girls expressed an interest in being members of the team.
