Rock Hills High School hosted a regional Class 1 A track and field meet at Mankato Friday. The Grizzlies girls team finished 13th, with 12 points, in the 23 team field. The boys finished in 13th place, with 20 points, in the 25 team field.
Athletes were competing for berths at the state meet. Rock Hills is sending three athletes to the meet.
Grant Meyers qualified for the state meet with his first place finish in the pole vault. He cleared the bar at 12'.
Jerrod Gillett punched his ticket to the state meet with his first place performance in the long jump. His leap covered 21'8".
Caden Slate and Wyatt Evert took part in the boys shot put. Evert competed in the discus throw.
Lauren Whelchel earned spots in the high jump and pole vault. She finished in third place in the high jump but exceeded the minimum standard for qualifying. She cleared the bar at 4'10". She finished in fifth place finish in the long jump when she covered 15'3.5". She is also eligible to compete in the pole vault when she cleared 8'6". The minimum standard 7'4". She finished in fourth place in the event.
Other Rock Hills athletes competed at the meet but failed to advance to the state meet.
Grace Ayers finished in seventh place in the 100 meter dash. She was in 11th place in the long jump.
Hannah Simmelink finished 10th in the 400 meter dash and did not advance.
The girls 4 x 100 meter relay team failed to advance as they finished in seventh place.

The 2021 state track and field meet is being held Saturday at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. Points will be awarded to the first eight finishers in an event.
