Rhonda Edwards - 2021 Victorian Festival Grand Marshal
The 2021 Victorian Festival Grand Marshal is Rhonda Edwards, local business owner of Superior Tour and Travel. Rhonda is from South Sioux City, Neb., and graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce majoring in business administration and accounting.
Growing up a "city girl," Rhonda met and married her husband Greg and moved to a farm near Hardy in 1977. They were blessed with four children -Matt (and Jessi) of Superior; Lance of Hays, Kan.; Gina (and Nick) Kroon of Oakland, Iowa; and Blake of Lincoln, Neb. Greg and Rhonda were also guardians to Rhonda's nephew, Josh. Eight grandchildren- Lilly, Dylan and Marley Edwards, Nola Edwards, and Emma, Krae, Ella and Kora Kroon are true joys in the family!
During Rhonda's first years in the Hardy-Superior area, She provided child daycare in her home. These 13 years were busy with farm wife duties and raising children. Rhonda had been a Cub Scout leader, assistant Scoutmaster, Girl Scout leader, private swimming lessons instructor, Superior Youth Athletic Association officer, and Red Caps officer. Rhonda taught Sunday School and had been co-sponsor of the Youth Group at the Superior United Methodist Church of which she is a member. With having at least one child in junior and senior high school for 25 years in a row, there were many bake sales, concession stand duties, scorebook keeping, field trips, room volunteering, room parties, meals made and lots of miles on the road with many activities and ball games. Of course, farm wife duties and working full time at the travel agency continue year round.
Superior Tour and Travel was incorporated in 1984 by Joyce Baird and Linda Dunn. Rhonda started her career in the travel agency in July 1993, and Rhonda and Greg then became owners of the travel agency in November 2001. The travel agency is accredited in Nebraska and Rhonda is licensed and certified with ARC, IATAN and various airlines, travel and insurance companies. The agency takes pride in their slogan "Superior Sales, Service and Satisfaction." Services range from honeymoons, bus tours, school trips, group travel, cruises, vacation rentals, travel insurance, airline tickets, hotels, car and vacation rentals, and rail service anywhere in the world. Rhonda has witnessed many, many changes in the travel world in her 28 years in the industry!
Rhonda has received the FFA Community Service Award, Superior Community Service Award, FCCLA Outstanding Community Leadership Award, FFA Honorary Chapter Degree (with husband, Greg), and the FFA Honorary State Degree. Rhonda has been a member of the Superior Chamber Ambassadors, Superior Chamber of Commerce, Superior Teammates, Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Hardy Cemetery Association Board of Directors, and the Bowling Bunch Friends Group. Rhonda and her husband, Greg, enjoy time together on the farm, Husker athletic events, traveling, attending grandchildren's activities and time with family. Six years ago, Rhonda was diagnosed with cancer and is thankful to be in remission! She feels incredibly blessed to have received so much kindness and support from her family, friends, clients, and community throughout her journey.
From city girl to farm wife ....Rhonda enjoys being a businesswoman in a SUPERIOR community and loves the small town living! She said it is a *WANDERFUL* place to live, and she wishes travelers a pleasant journey whether traveling near or far! Bon Voyage!
