Superior Chamber recognizes volunteers

The Superior Chamber of Commerce is recognizing the volunteer efforts of two of its members in conjunction with the Lady Vestey Festival. Marlene McGowan and Scott Boyles are being honored for their years of service to the Superior community. The Chamber Ambassadors presented each with a certificate last week to commemorate their award.

McGowan, the retired manager of the local Horizon Bank branch, was recognized for her contributions to many organizations. Over the years she has served as a Chamber Ambassador and is a past president of the organization as well as the ambassadors. She has continued to volunteer and assist the chamber manager in different capacities including festival planning.

She has been active as a member of Centennial Lutheran Church as well as serving as treasurer of the congregation. McGowan is a founding board member and treasurer of the Superior 3000 Foundation.

She is a member of the Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as well as a past president. She also volunteers at the hospital gift shop.

She is past member of the Superior Economic Development Council. The Superior High School graduate is active in alumni association affairs. She is a past president of the group. McGowan volunteers at the Superior Public Library with the Enovation Studio. She is trained in the use of the equipment the library has purchased.

Boyles, the Farmers and Merchants Bank branch manager, has been active in Superior youth sports for many years. He is the president of the SYAA group. He has assisted in organizing baseball, basketball and football leagues for Superior youth. He assists with the youth track program.

He officiates baseball, basketball and football games.

He serves as the current president of the Superior Chamber of Commerce.

Boyles has been instrumental in the organization of the Lady Vestey Festival parade for many years.

He serves as Superior's representative on the board of Educational Service Unit 9.

Boyles has been a part of the Teammates volunteer program at Superior Public Schools.

Boyles was presented with his award in front of Farmers and Merchants Bank while McGowan was feted at the Chamber of Commerce office.
