Norman Robert Stenson, the son of Ira Everett and Ruth (Swihart) Stenson, was born Aug. 24, 1933, on a farm near Hardy, Neb. He died May 5, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society Superior home at the age of 87 years, 8 months, 11 days.
Norman was raised on the farm and attended school in Hardy, graduating from Hardy High School. He was a 40 plus year member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Norman was inducted into the United States Navy on Dec. 9, 1955, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1961, serving during the Post Korean war. Norman returned to the farm and in November of 1959, he was married to Marietta Petersen. This union was blessed with three children Dana, Kent and Carol. They later divorced. On March 2, 1982, he was united in marriage to Susan Matz. To this union a daughter, Linsay, was born, along with a blended family.
Norman was a humble, quiet and gentle man. He liked farming and raising cattle. His hobbies included gardening, reading and bird watching. He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Valley Home Card club and Pinochle club. He was involved in 4-H and was a member of the Farm Bureau. Most of all he loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian.
Because of his health, Norman entered the Good Samaritan Center April 16, residing there until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan, on June 15, 2016; brother, Willard; and his sister, Virginia Lewis.
Survivors include Dana (Tim) Eitzmann, their two children and two grandchildren; Kent (Jacki) Stenson, their four children and two grandchildren; Carol (Wade) Frink, their four children and six grandchildren; Stefanie Olson and her two children; Sam (Carrie) Meyers and their three children; Rachel (Matt) Maxwell and their three children; and Linsay (Wade) VanMeter and their two children; other relatives and a host of friends.
His funeral with military honors was held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 8, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Matt Maxwell officiating.
Music was "The Old Rugged Cross," and "It Is Well With My Soul," with Carlita Price as the organist.
Visitation was held Friday from 3 to 6 with the family present.
Honorary pallbearers were Bryce Eitzmann, Todd Eitzmann, Jacob Frink, Jason Frink, Lewis VanMeter and Marlee VanMeter.
Private family inurnment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior.
A memorial has been established c/o the family.
