The Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams visited Beloit Friday to compete at the Beloit Relays. The Boys team finished in 12th place, with 19 points, in the 19 team field. The girls were in 13th place, with 18 points. Schools competing at the meet were St. John’s, Osborne, Republic County, Tescott, Pike Valley, Logan, Smith Center, Lakeside, Clifton-Clyde, Washington, Lincoln, Saline, Marion, Sacred Heart, Bennington, Sylvan United, Tipton, Thunder Ridge and Wilson. Pike Valley did not enter a team in the girls events. The first six places in an event are awarded points.
Rock Hills traveled to Tescott, Tuesday, to take part in the Tescott Invitational meet. Meet results were unavailable at press time.
Seth Pennell competed in the 100 meter dash for the boys team but did not place in the points.
Tristyn Brown took fourth place in the 200 meter dash with his time of 23.8 seconds. Pennell finished in sixth place with the time of 24.33 seconds.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Brown, Jerrod Gillett, Pennell and Grant Meyers finished out of the points.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Brown, Gillett, Pennell and Kit Wagner earned a fifth place finish with their time of 3:46.7.
Gillett held fifth place in the long jump with his leap of 18’9.5”. Wagner also competed in the event.
Grant Meyers picked up the first place medal in the pole vault when he cleared 12’.
Wyatt Evert and Caden Slate entered the shot put but did not earn points.
Buck Leudke and Slate took part in the discus throw.
Grace Ayers held down fourth place in the 100 meter dash with her time of 14 seconds.
Ayers made the finals of the 200 meter dash but did not earn points. Austyn Groote ran a preliminary heat but did not advance to the final heat.
Hannah Simmelink took part in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run but did not earn points.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Ayers, Groote, Simmelink and Lauren Whelchel finished in sixth place with their time of 56.38 seconds.
Whelchel earned second place points in the high jump at 4’8”. She took fourth place points in the pole vault with a bar clearing 7’8” effort.
Ayers competed in the long jump. Avery Brown participated in the shot put. Groote took part in the discus throw.
The Grizzlies host the Rock Hills Invitational at Mankato Friday. Start time is 3 p.m.
