Auditor's 2020 recommended transfers approved

The Jewell County Commissioners met April 12 with commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, present for the meeting.

Travis Garst, solid waste director, reviewed the March activity report.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, reported a positive COVID-19 case involving a student at USD 107. She said one patient had a reaction to their COVID-19 vaccination. Rex Boley, USD 107 superintendent provided her the Osage County Health Department Press Release concerning a mask exemption to Osage County’s COVID-19 quarantine process. Brenden Wirth, USD 107 School Board Member, was present for the discussion and asked for a recommendation from the Board of County Commissioners and the Health Department. Marihugh reported issues with the Jeep.

The commissioners reviewed and approved the auditor’s recommended 2020 transfers: general - $100,000 to equipment reserve; road department - $135,000 to special highway improvement; noxious weed - $10,000 to noxious weed capital outlay; health department - $75,000 to the health sapital outlay; and ambulance department - $90,000 to ambulance equipment fund.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed road and bridge projects. The commissioners discussed road maintenance.

Beck said he had been contacted by Bill and Sue Foster concerning lots in Ionia they would like to purchase from the county. He also discussed a road issue in Burr Oak Township and Highland Township.
