The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met Saturday at Deshler Lutheran School in Deshler.
The meeting began with the presentation of the organization's 2021 scholarship award. Each year, Alpha Zeta awards a scholarship to a student planning a career in education. Scholarship committee members Margaret Brittenham and Chandra Hillman, introduced the 2021 recipient, Kaylee Flaata of Superior. Kaylee is a senior at Superior High School. She is a high honor roll student and is involved in numerous school activities. She works with the after school program as well. Following graduation, Kaylee plans to attend Kansas State University and major in music education. Kaylee was presented a scholarship certificate and a long-stemmed red rose.
Following the presentation, members were served coffee cake by the hostesses, Beverly Pitts, Pat Schardt, Susan Miller and Anita Harms.
A business meeting was held with Joyce Kroll, co-president, presiding. Members answered roll call with an answer to the question, "What is a game you remember playing as a child?"
The minute for membership submitted by Mary Jo Hofts, was read by Joyce Kroll. It was entitled, "Always
Room for a Friend."
Announcements concerning the up-coming virtual state convention and regional conventions were made. It was noted Bonnie Priefer, who spoke to members at a past meeting about organ transplants, had donated two books about organ transplants to the Hebron Library. One of these books is for children, the other for adults. Susan Miller has been granted a $1,500 Nebraska DKG state scholarship for her advanced degree studies. The business meeting was adjourned.
Kathy Degenhardt then gave a Founders Day Presentation which included details about the founding of the Delta Kappa Gamma organization. She told about each of the 12 founding members of which four had doctorate degrees. She also shared information about Alpha Zeta Charter members.
The hostess basket was won by Teresa Christensen.
The next meeting will include a tour of Concordia which is scheduled for Sept. 18.
