Marlos Shipman

Marlos Rae Shipman, 77, was born Feb. 9, 1943, in the basement of the family home southwest of Guide Rock. She died Sept. 30, 2020. She was the second of four children born to her parents, Edythe and Jake Shipman.

She had a normal childhood on the farm, and would sometimes trade her

mom’s dill pickles to her cousins and friends for comic books. Marlos attended school at rural District 10, and the public schools of Guide Rock. She enjoyed life and participated in all of the school activities.

She married Ron McNichols, from Guide Rock. They had three children:

Rhonda, Mark and Bret. They resided in Columbus, Neb., and later moved to the suburbs of Denver, Colo., where Marlos remained until her death.

She worked for a short time at the Russell Stover plant, before landing her career of 25 plus years at the Coors Brewing Company. She wore many hats there, one of her favorites was being able to learn sign language to help the

hearing impaired to seek employment with the company.She organized many events including the Celebrity Golf Tournaments in Palm Springs, Calif. While working at the brewery, she had the opportunity to further her education and received her bachelor’s degree from Regis University.

After her divorce from Ron, Marlos married her high school crush, Richard Ely, Jr. Their union was cut short after only seven years when Rich lost his battle to ALS. Marlos would go on to marry for a third time.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Rhonda.

Survivors are her sons, Mark of Buckeye, Ariz.; and Bret of Kansas City, Mo.; grandsons, Ryan of Phoenix, Ariz., Dakota and Chase of Kansas City, Mo.; granddaughter, Jessica of Montrose, Colo; brothers, Jim of Guide Rock, Denny of Hastings; and a sister, Jacque of Great Bend.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 29, in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
