SHS track competes at first meet of 2021

For the past several years the Superior High School boys and girls track and field teams have opened their season with indoor Nebraska-Kearney High School Track and Field meets at the Cushing Coliseum on the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus. The meet was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Current COVID protocols dictated that the meet be held outdoors this year. The Class C and D schools took to the track Saturday under fair skies with moderate temperatures. This meet replaced the long-time Ed Weir meet at Superior. Weather issues often affected the Weir meet with cold temperatures, snow or a combination of both. It was often impossible to reschedule the meet.

Brianna Stricklin finished in 16th place for the girls in the 100 meter dash with her time of 14:4 seconds. Sadie Rempel was in 19th place with the time of 15.5 seconds. Cayce Barry was in 32nd place with her time of 16.06 seconds.

Ella Gardner took second place honors in the 200 meter dash with her time of 27.61 seconds. Stricklin finished in 15th place with the time of 30.72 seconds.

Gardner added a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with the time of 1:05.13.

Madison Heusinkvelt was in seventh place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 11.20 seconds.

Alexa Cox finished in 11 place in the 300 meter hurdles with the time of 1:07.58.

Rempel held down second place in the pole vault when she cleared the bar at 8;6".

Heusinkvelt was in seventh place in the long jump with her leap of 14'7".

Atlee Kobza took 12th place in the shot put with her toss of 28'.5".

Heusinkvelt took 19th place in the discus with her throw of 79'4".

Elijah Heusinkvelt earned second place points in the boys 100 meter dash with his time of 11.71 seconds. Clayton Morris was in 23rd place with the time of 12.45 seconds.

Dane Miller took second place honors in the 200 meter dash with his time of 23.37 seconds. Heusinkvelt held third place in the 200 meter dash with his time of 23.67 seconds.

Morris was in 10th place in the 400 meter dash with the time of 1:00.03. Matthew Colgrove was in 15th place with the time of 1:03.58. James Love finished in 21st place with a time of 1:05.74.

AJ Leibel earned a second place finish in the 3200 meter run with his time of 11:42.03. Brett Miller was in seventh place with the time of 13.05.07.

D. Miller claimed third place in the 60 meter hurdles with his time of 9.29 seconds. Love took 10th place with a time of 10.8 seconds. Morris landed a seventh place finish in the pole vault when he cleared 10'.

Taran Zoltenko was in 11th place in the long jump with his leap of 17'11.5". Colgrove was in 29th place with his leap of 16'2.5".

E. Heusinkvelt was in sixth place in the triple jump with a total of 37'7.5".

Seth Schnakenberg took fifth place in the shot put with a toss of 41'5.75". Payton Christiancy was in 11th place with his toss of 37'8.75". Luke Jameson finished in 26th place with a toss of 31'5.75".

Schnakenberg held second place points in the discus with a throw of 146'5". Christiancy picked up sixth place points with his throw of 137'2". Jameson was in 21st place with his throw of 97'6".

The Wildcats are in Sutton today (Thursday). This match was scheduled for Tuesday. Inclement weather forced a postponement. Superior travels to Fairbury Saturday for the Fairbury Invitational.
