Dwane Rice

Dwane Rice died in his home in Jewell March 21, 2021. Dwane was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Exeter, Neb., to Wayne E, Rice and Eva L. (Derry) Rice. He was one of 13 children.

On March 1, 1955, at the age of 17 years, Dwane enlisted into the Army. Dwane spent 20 years in the Army to serve his country.

On May 13, 1957, he was united in marriage to Hollie Faye Taylor. In this union three children were born: Dwane E. Rice Jr., Milburn W. Rice and Kathy M. (Rice) Mallory. Hollie and the two boys traveled to several of the places where Dwane was stationed. Kathy was born after Dwane left the Army. Dwane had been to Strubing, Germany, Fort Knox, Ky., Poso, Calif., Korea, Fort Irwin, Calif., and Ansbach, Germany. Dwane was in the Vietnam War.

Dwane was preceded in death by his wife, Hollie; son, Dwane; one grandson, Jacy Braun; his parents and siblings.

Survivors include his daughter Kathy (Brian) Mallory of Jewell; son, Milburn Rice; grandchildren, Emily (Andrew) Hendrich of Portis, Kan., Alicia (Jordon) Schroeder of Downs, Jessica Mallory of Victoria, Tiffany Rice of Solomon, Austin Rice of Jewell, Cody Rice; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be given to family or Solomon Valley Hospice.

His funeral was at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, at the Jewell Christian Church with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating. Burial followed in Prairie Gove Cemetery, Cawker City. Kleppinger Funeral Home in Jewell, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
