The monthly meeting of the Mankato Chamber of Commerce was held last Wednesday. There were seven members present. Jason Ortman, president, called the meeting to order.
Haley Nelson gave an update on the 2021 membership drive. The chamber currently has 41 active members as opposed to the 48 members the chamber had last year. Haley is working on sorting the changes that need to be made to the website so Karen Rhea can update the website.
The Mankato Community Wide Clean-Up will take place April 17. The chamber and the City of Mankato will coordinate and work together on the event. Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the City Park and then begin the clean-up from there. Items accepted are: tree limbs, brush, leaves, metal, furniture and other household bagged items. Items must be bagged and taken to the curb or alley. Routine household trash will not be picked up.
Pick ups must be scheduled by Monday, April 12. After the clean-up is complete, the volunteers will be fed a chicken meal. The chicken will be prepared like the chicken the chamber will serve at the Mother’s Day Chicken Dinner so members can have a trial run so as to know how to schedule times for pickup at that event.
To schedule a pickup or for more information regarding volunteering for the clean-up, contact Jason Ortman at 785-820-6917.
This month is Match Month for the Jewell County Foundation. Dane Hansen is again matching donations 150 percent. Heather Thompson will see to it the $500 donation will be allocated.
The chamber continued discussion about the Mother’s Day Luncheon. This year’s luncheon will look a little different than the past. This year the event will take place on May 9 at Kier’s Thriftway. The chamber will be taking pre orders only for an eight-piece bucket of chicken. The cost for the bucket of chicken will be $15. Preorders will be taken from April 17 to May 1. Pick up times will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Anyone wanting to order a bucket of chicken can contact Jason Ortman or Haley Nelson between those dates to order and schedule a pick up time.
The next meeting will take place April 14 at the Buffalo Roam Steakhouse.
