Kylee Haba, Art and 9-12 Journalism at Lawrence-Nelson Middle School and High School told about an uplifting experience which encourages her in teaching.
"It was the summer of 2020 (we all know how that went!) and I was sitting at home doing homework for my master's classes when my husband brought in the mail. I found a neatly crafted hand-lettered envelope addressed to me. I was intrigued by who it might be from. I open it and realized it was from one of my current students. It was a thank you note! She expressed how thankful she was to have me as her art teacher. She thanked me for helping her gain confidence and independence, inside and outside of the art room. She expressed she appreciated my ability to keep it real and to create an open and safe classroom environment.
"I was so touched by her kind words and thoughtfulness that she put into the handwritten letter. Once again, showing that even though I am not a core subject teacher that students see every single day, I can still make the biggest impact on my students."
