SHS wrestlers finish 7th at conference
The Superior High School wrestling team had five members taking to the mats at the state wrestling tournament held Wednesday and Thursday at the CHI Center in Omaha. They faced off against the best of the best from across the state in Class D. When the event ended, Superior was tied for 24th place, with 27 points, in the 66 team field.
Hayden Neeman, a sophomore, won his first three matches in the 106 pound weight bracket to advance to the championship round Thursday. He had lost only one match throughout the season. His opponent, Eli Lanham, Plainview, had gone undefeated. When the match ended Neeman had been handed his second loss of the season. He finished with a 40-2 record. He earned 22 team points for Superior.
Aaron Allgood lost his opening round match in the 138 pound weight bracket. He was eliminated from point contention with his loss in consolation round one. Allgood finished the season with a 24-23 record.
Jordan Brown dropped his opening round match in the 182 pound weight bracket. He was eliminated from point contention with his loss in the first consolation round. Brown compiled a 19-21 record for the season.
Anders Webber competed in the 220 pound weight bracket. Webber dropped his opening round match. He exited the competition when he lost in the first consolation round. Webber posted an 19-9 record for Wildcats.
Payton Christiancy won his opening round match. He fell to Brayton Branic, the eventual state champion, in the quarter-final match. Christiancy won his second round consolation match in the third place bracket. He was unsuccessful in his consolation round three match. He was awarded five team points. Christiancy completed his season with a 38-9 record.
