Alice Freeman

Alice Lucille Freeman of Lincoln, formerly Deshler, died Feb. 6. She was born May 1, 1927, in Stella, Neb., to E. A. and Ferne (Higgins) Moritz. She attended country school before moving to Deshler, where she graduated from high school in May 1944. She graduated in June 1948 from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a teaching degree in mathematics.

Lucille married Don Freeman on Sept. 7, 1947, at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln.

After she graduated college, they returned to Deshler in July 1948 where

Don went into the family grocery business with his parents. They took full ownership of Freeman’s Market in 1964.

Lucille was active in the Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School

for 30 years, singing in the choir, moderating Presbyterian Women and serving on the Homestead Presbyterian Board for five years. She was active in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, china painting, bridge clubs, the America Legion Auxiliary for 60 years, and volunteered countless hours. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Europe, Hawaii and throughout the U.S.

Lucille is survived by her children - Donald Freeman of Lincoln, Neb., Mary Lemon of Freeport Fla., and David Freeman of Spring Hill Kan.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Freeman; brother, Douglas Moritz; and sister, Margaret Moritz.

Following Lucille’s wishes she was cremated. A funeral will be held at a later date.
