Once the Rock Hills High School girls basketball team learned how to win, they have been unstoppable. The team recorded two more wins to extend their streak to six games and a 6-1 record for the season.
The Grizzlies topped the Red Cloud Warriors, 43-20, at Mankato, Thursday. They followed that up with a 45-8 thrashing of Natoma at Mankato Monday. The team looked to extend their streak when they took on Sylvan-Lucas on the road Tuesday. Games results were unavailable at press time.
The Red Cloud game was a study in contrasts. The two team teams were separated by two points at the half with the Grizzlies leading 16-14. Rock Hills dropped the defensive hammer on Red Cloud over the third and fourth quarters, limiting them to six points. The Grizzlies put up 27 points to seal win number five, 43-20
The Natoma game was over before it started. The Grizzlies held Natoma scoreless for the first two quarters of play. Natoma broke through and scored two points in the third quarter when they trailed 29-2. The final score was 45-8 for win number six.
Karrigan Dunstan poured through 14 points against Red Cloud. Lauren Whelchel hit for 11 points. Austyn Groote and Jauclyn Lemke scored eight points apiece for the Grizzlies. Selena Luong added two points.
Lemke lit up the scoreboard with 16 points against Natoma. Dunstan contributed 11 points. Whelchel popped through nine points. Danica Frost posted five points. Luong came through with two points for the Grizzlies.
Lakeside visits Mankato Friday. The Tescott Tigers come to Mankato Monday for a game. T
