The Wildcats faced off against St. Cecilia last Tuesday. Both teams came ready to play in the first quarter exchanging baskets and ending tied 12 to 12 after the first. St. Cecilia picked up the pressure over the next two quarters gaining a 12 point lead off a 22-10 run. Superior made a nice effort in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough. The final score was St. Cecilia 44, Superior 36. "We didn't handle their pressure very well tonight. We can't have 20 turnovers and expect to win ball games. I keep telling the guys we're close. Clean up the little things and we will start winning these close games," said Coach Chadwell.
Superior's scoring was led by Conner Blackstone's 17. Seth Schnakenberg led rebounding with 9.
Superior traveled to Doniphan-Trumbull Friday night. An entertaining back and forth first half put Doniphan-Trumbull in the lead 20 to 15. Superior showed signs of good basketball at times and at others, the inability to handle pressure allowed Doniphan-Trumbull to become comfortable. "Doniphan is a good basketball team. Their size can plague them at times, but their effort makes up for that. They love to pressure and turn you over. I figured if we stayed around 15 turnovers we would be fine. We ended with 24 and they capitalized on them," Coach Chadwell said.
The Cardinals extended their lead to 19 points in the third quarter. Superior battled back, but again it wasn't enough. The final score, Doniphan-Trumbull 56 to 43.
"I was most disappointed in our defensive rebounding. We didn't do a great job of boxing them out. We were in good position, just didn't make great contact," said Coach Chadwell.
Dane Miller led scoring with 16. Blackstone led rebounding with 8. Superior traveled to Deshler Tuesday.
