Jewell County Commissioners approve appointments

The Jewell County commissioners met Jan. 11. Commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J Waugh, county clerk, were present for the meeting.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, reported during the week Jewell County had 18 positive COVID-19 cases. She said they moved office equipment to the clinic building. There are some issues with the building that need to be addressed.

Judge Kevin Phillips administered the oath of office to Carla J. Waugh, county clerk; Keith Roe, county commissioner, District 2; Brent Beck, county commissioner, District 3; Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Alexandria Carabajal, county attorney; and Donald J. Jacobs, sheriff. Others present were Bethany Roe, Carl Waugh and county employees.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed summer hours and asked if COVID Cares Act relief pay would be extended by Jewell County. The commissioners thanked the road and bridge department for moving the health department. Joel Elkins discussed clearing trees and ditches for fence building.

Keith Roe was appointed chairman of the board of county commissioners for 2021.

Steve Green was appointed vice chairman of the board county commissioners for 2021.

The Jewell County Record was designated as the official county newspaper.

It was approved for all banks in Jewell County be designated as official depositories.

Brent Beck was appointed Jewell County’s representative for the juvenile justice authority-community corrections advisory board.

Steve Green was reappointed Jewell County’s representative for the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility.

Keith Roe was appointed Jewell County’s representative for the North Central Regional Planning Commission Board.

Jenny Russell, Jewell County Community Development Association, reviewed the annual report.

Resolution 21-01 pertaining to Financial Statements and Financial Reports for 2021 passed unanimously.

Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator, provided a phase by population distribution chart for the COVID-19 vaccine. He submitted the final SPARK report and received a good review from the state.
